S is for Solar Power!

Two weeks ago, Egypt confirmed in a report that their first solar power plant will be working by the end of this year. According to BusinessGreen.com,

The report said the plant to the south of Cairo would be among only four solar farms in the world to reach the 140MW mark and would represent the beginning of a major new strategy designed to ensure 20 per cent of the country’s energy is generated by renewable sources by 2020.

The video above, by the World Bank, shares more about this awesome project.

But many Egyptians have already been using solar power! Visit Solar C.I.T.I.E.S.’s blog and find out how a group of individuals came together to help build – and teach others to build – “solar roofs in the slums of Cairo”. And that’s only the start of their projects!
